Setting Your Logo as the Image That Appears Next to My Site Title in Google

TL;DR

Want your logo to show up next to your site title in Google? First, upload a favicon (that’s the tiny image in browser tabs) and set a social sharing image in your Squarespace settings. Don’t forget to tell Google to recrawl your site and use clear file names and alt text to keep things search-friendly. Finally, give Google a nudge by requesting a re-index in Google Search Console. Voilà—your brand’s front and center!

What you’re seeing is called a favicon (that little icon in browser tabs) or a brand logo in search results, which Google pulls from structured data or social sharing settings. Unfortunately, you can’t directly control when or how Google displays your logo—it’s more of a subtle nudge than a demand. But when done right, you increase the chances of Google recognizing and displaying your logo in all its branded glory.

Step 1: Upload Your Logo as a Favicon in Squarespace

Your favicon is a small but mighty visual cue that represents your brand. Even if it doesn’t guarantee placement in Google’s search results, it’s a key piece of your site’s branding puzzle. Here's how to upload it:

  1. Go to your Squarespace Home Menu and click Design.

  2. Select Browser Icon (Favicon).

  3. Upload your logo in a square format (preferably 100x100 pixels or larger).

  4. Save your changes.

This favicon appears in browser tabs, bookmarks, and possibly—if Google feels like being friendly—next to your site title in search results.

Step 2: Set Your Logo in Squarespace’s Social Sharing Panel

Google often pulls logos from social sharing metadata, so it’s important to have your logo set here too. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Website > Social Sharing in your Squarespace settings.

  2. Upload your primary logo (preferably in .png format with a transparent background).

  3. Ensure your logo is clear and high-quality—Google prefers logos with a minimum width of 112 pixels.

  4. Save your changes.

Don’t forget to use descriptive file names and alt text for your images to help with SEO and searchability.

Step 3: Test Your Logo with Google’s Rich Results Test

Once you’ve added your structured data, it’s time to test it:

  1. Visit Google’s Rich Results Test.

  2. Enter your website URL and click Test URL.

  3. Check for any errors related to your structured data.

If everything looks good, you’ve done your part! Now it’s up to Google to decide when and where to display your logo.

Step 4: Request Re-indexing in Google Search Console

After making these changes, prompt Google to re-crawl your site:

  • Log in to Google Search Console.

  • Navigate to URL Inspection.

  • Enter your homepage URL and click Request Indexing.

This action encourages Google to update your site's information in its index.

Step 5: Be Patient—Google Needs Time

I know this isn’t the answer you want to hear but Google marches to the beat of their own drums and doesn’t make changes instantly. It can take days or even weeks for Google to crawl your site and update how it appears in search results. Keep an eye on your Google Search Console for updates and indexing status.

Keep Your Branding Consistent

While waiting for Google to recognize your logo, make sure your branding is consistent across all platforms. Use the same logo on your social media profiles, business listings, and anywhere your brand appears online. This reinforces your identity and signals to Google that your logo is important.

Getting your logo to appear next to your site title in Google search results isn’t an overnight process, but it’s well worth the effort for a more professional, polished online presence. With Squarespace’s intuitive design features and a bit of structured data, you’re setting your site up for SEO success and giving your brand the best chance to stand out.
